If you remember the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon and the portion called "Fractured Fairy Tales", this is very similar. The author took familiar fairy tales and rewrote them--most with female lead characters who learn not to depend on Prince Charming or Fairy Godmothers/fathers to solve their problems.

There were a couple funny ones, but most were only mildly amusing.
